Lt. Governor and Speaker Issue Interim Charges for 85th Legislature

House Speaker Joe Straus and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick have issued interim charges for House and Senate Committees for the 85th Legislature.  Please take a look at the following and send any comments or recommendations to

In total, Speaker Straus issued more than 230 interim charges, which can be viewed here.

“The House will work on a broad range of issues over the next year,” Speaker Straus said. “The work in the months ahead will help ensure that taxpayer dollars are being used properly, that state agencies are meeting the state’s needs and that our private-sector economy is prepared for continued growth.”

Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Patrick issued a total of 106 charges for Senate committees, which can be found in two parts here and here.  In addition, he released a set of Hurricane Harvey charges last month.

“The Texas Senate will continue to take the lead in transforming our conservative principles into sound public policy. These charges are serious directives that reflect both my priorities and the priorities of the Texas Senate. They will require a lot of work in a short amount of time but I have complete confidence in the leadership and commitment of my committee chairs and the senators who serve on these committees. I know that when their reports come back later this interim, they will provide a clear path for Texas on the best way to address the policy challenges we are facing,” Patrick said.
